Heaton setting 'Scene'
Thesp joins Off B'way production

By Gordon Cox | Variety Magazine

Patricia Heaton ("Everybody Loves Raymond") has signed on to appear Off Broadway in the Second Stage production of "The Scene," the new play by Theresa Rebeck set to begin perfs in December.

Heaton will portray the wife of a man who is tempted by a hot young newcomer to the New York entertainment scene.

Rebeck's play was fingered by many critics as the standout of the 2006 Humana Fest of new plays, during which the show preemed this spring.

Heaton did not appear in the Humana incarnation. With casting for the Second Stage version ongoing, some thesps from the earlier run -- which had an ensemble that included Anna Camp and David Wilson Barnes -- may yet reprise their roles in Gotham.

Rebecca Taichman, who directed the show at Humana, helms at Second Stage as well. Production begins perfs Dec. 12 for a Jan. 11 opening.
