It’s a warm afternoon in L.A.
Patricia Heaton is doing a
training circuit in her
backyard she’s working hard
and sweating, but can’t help
but acknowledge the men
building the guest house just
across the lawn, and how
they’re really working and
really sweating. It creates a
sense of perspective that most
stars wouldn’t recognize.
Such is her work ethic and true
sense of reality. Patricia
Heaton has just completed her
third season as the loveable
wife of Ray Romano on CBS’
hit series “Everybody Loves
Raymond“. The success of the
show has been huge even beating
Monday Night Football during
it’s slot this past year.
Patty not only stars in the
series, she also stars in her
main role as a mother of four
boys, all under the age of 7.
Patty became one of the first
stars of a series to speak
bluntly about women in series
and their weight. saying that
“if they say they‘re not
going to bed hungry at night
they‘re fooling themselves,
because I do“. She elaborates
with us on that controversial
issue; “The pressure for
actresses to be thin comes a
lot from the fashion world; the
clothes today are impossibly
tight and revealing! Annie Hall
where are you! You have to be
pretty strong individually to
resist the pressure.”
As far as diet tips Heaton
says; “When I diet I do
fairly short, drastic dieting
like cabbage soup for quick and
immediate results. Otherwise, a
basic low-fat diet with carbs
in the morning and no eating
after seven or eight p.m.”
She made it through last years
season hiding the full bloom of
her fourth son’s pregnancy,
and bounced back quickly into
post pregnancy shape with the
help of training circuits
administered through
PrivateTraining. We asked Patty
about the pressures of starring
under the microscope while
raising her four young boys
with actor/ producer husband
David Hunt. How does she find
time to fit in exercise during
the hectic schedule of filming
a weekly series amidst all her
other responsibilities as a
mother; “ When I'm working
and have limited time for
exercise, my main focus is
cardiovascular. I like to
either go to the gym at the
studio and do the treadmill or
try to squeeze in an early
morning spinning class.”
Now that filming has wrapped
for the season Patty has a
chance to refocus her energies.
"“On hiatus, I veg out
the first couple of weeks. I
don't exercise, instead I
usually catch up on housework
and spring cleaning, organizing
drawers and closets and
throwing out a lot of stuff --
the kind of thing I don't have
the chance to do during the
year. Then I get into a workout
routine -- some tennis, some
spinning, etc.”
“I really look forward to my
time off. My mood elevates a
hundredfold! I really love my
job and it affords my a lot of
time with my family, still it's
a lot to manage and the time
off is really
appreciated."
