ABC's long-in-the-works, six-hour 9/11 miniseries
will unspool over two nights, with its conclusion
airing on the fifth anniversary of the terrorist
attacks.
Part one of "The
Path to 9/11" will air Sunday, Sept. 10, from
8-11 p.m.; the concluding three hours will air in
the same slot on Monday, Sept. 11. Mini stars Harvey
Keitel, Donnie Wahlberg and Patricia Heaton.
ABC's project is the last of several high-profile
9/11 TV and movie projects that were put into
development around the same time. A&E aired its
"Flight 93" in January, while U released feature
"United 93" this spring. Oliver Stone's theatrical
"World Trade Center" will be released in August.
Alphabet and NBC both announced plans for projects
nearly two years ago, with NBC ultimately dropping
out of the race.
As for the other nets, earlier this week, Fox said
it would air season premieres of its animated
comedies on Sept. 10. "Prison Break" and "Vanished"
are set to air Sept. 11.
CBS and NBC haven't yet announced primetime plans
for the night of Sept. 11. It's assumed most nets
will devote extensive news coverage in the daytime
-- and possibly primetime -- to the official
commemorations of the fifth anniversary of the
attacks.
With "Path to 9/11" in primetime on Sept. 11, ABC
News won't be able to have an extensive primetime
presence on the night of the anniversary. It seems
logical, however, that "Nightline" will devote
itself to the attacks on that night. |
