Brad Garrett is in
negotiations to star in
Fox's comedy pilot 'Til
Death.'
Sources said the Emmy-winning
co-star of CBS' "Everybody
Loves Raymond" committed to
the Sony Pictures TV project
Friday.
On the feature side, Garrett
is set to join the Warner
Bros. romantic comedy "Music
and Lyrics By," starring
Drew Barrymore and Hugh
Grant.
Fox's "Death" centers on a
just-married young couple
who move in next door to a
long-married couple. Garrett
would play the long-married
husband.
Eddie Kaye Thomas of
"American Pie" fame was
previously cast as the
newlywed guy.
'Til Death" was written by
Cathy Yuspa and Josh
Goldsmith, creators of CBS'
long-running blue-color
comedy "The King of Queens,"
which for years ran in the
same CBS Monday comedy block
as the Emmy-winning
"Raymond."
Fox and Sony on Sunday
declined comment on the
matter.
Additionally, "King of
Queens" star Kevin James
went on to topline his own
sitcom after getting a break
as a recurring on "Raymond,"
and Garrett guest-starred on
"King of Queens" as his
character from "Raymond,"
Ray Barone's (Ray Romano)
sulky policeman brother.
Yuspa and Goldsmith are
executive producing " 'Til
Death."
Garrett and his managers,
Glenn Robbins and Doug Wald
of Raw Talent, also are
expected to produce in some
capacity.
After the final season of
"Raymond," which earned
Garrett his third Emmy for
portraying Robert Barone,
Garrett was in talks to
topline a "Raymond" spinoff
centered on his character,
which he announced at the
Emmy Awards in September.
But by November, the
prospect for a new series
went away.
Garrett is the second Emmy-winning
"Raymond" star to topline a
pilot this development
season. Patricia Heaton
plays the lead in an ABC
comedy.
Garrett, who also received
an Emmy nomination for his
starring role in the CBS
biopic "Gleason," also is
repped by WMA and attorney
Michael Gendler.
