Richard Dreyfuss won an Oscar
for his performance as wannabe
actor Elliot Garfield in the
1977 movie of "The Goodbye
Girl" and Jeff Daniels may
be hoping for a similar awards
bounty as he discusses taking
the role in the new TNT update.
According to The Hollywood
Reporter, Daniels would join
Patricia Heaton
("Everybody Loves
Raymond") in the telefilm.
Heaton is already signed on to
play the role of the divorced
single mom played by Marsha
Mason in the Herbert Ross's
film. Neil Simon, who received
an Oscar nomination for his
script of the film, is writing
and executive producing the
remake. Ron Ziskin and Dave
Collins are sharing executive
producing duties and Don Safran
will co-executive produce.
In the 1980s, Daniels had a
superior string of leading man
roles in films as diverse as
"Terms of
Endearment,"
"Something Wild,"
"The Purple Rose of
Cairo" and
"Heartburn." Still,
for millions, he's best known
as Harry Dunne from "Dumb
and Dumber." Daniels most
recently appeared in theaters
in "The Hours" and
"Gods and Generals."
Slightly less versed in TV,
Daniels has appeared as George
Washington in the A&E movie
"The Crossing" and in
the Academic Decathlon movie
"Cheaters" on HBO. He
also appeared on an episode of
"Hawaii Five-O" in
1980.
